Age is no block for our workforce

26-08-2009

No putting their feet up for these two pensioners...

With a total of six decades of service between them, the two men have just celebrated their 65th birthdays but are not letting age block their ambitions. Due to their immaculate work record, they are both being kept on at our building and decorative block manufacturing base in Halesfield.

Retirement beckons for Eric Tranter and Mick Mason, but they have both chosen to continue building their careers with us at Besblock - instead of putting their feet up!

Eric, from Much Wenlock, is an HGV driver for the company and has delivered products all over the country in his 35 years for us, in vehicles ranging from a basic Leyland Bison to what he describes as a luxurious Volvo FM400 with air conditioning and an automatic gearbox! He will continue working full-time.He commented: "I started here on April Fool's Day in 1974 so you would think that may have been an omen but I have only missed three days since. I am a very young 65 and thoroughly enjoy working with such a good bunch of lads!"

Mick, who lives in Stirchley, Telford, works in the maintenance department at the company's 5 acre site and will continue to work four days a week.
"I really enjoy my job, it gets me out and keeps me going and I certainly don't want to put my feet up in the garden just yet," he said.

Our Managing Director, John Huxley, paid tribute to both men saying: "The loyalty and dedicated support of these two members of our team has contributed greatly to the continued success of this company over the past 35 years. We are extremely grateful to both for their long service and delighted that they are staying with us."
